The NDGA Representative Team travelled to Shoalhaven Heads GC on the weekend of November 11, 12 & 13 to contest the NSW Country Championships and District Teams Event.
The NDGA was represented by Jake Riley, Tom De Wit, Oscar Gilson. Luke Ferrier, David Alexander and Bryce Pickin - with Michael Wade playing as Reserve..
Shoalhaven Heads GC was an interesting choice of venue - a course that is not overlong - with several drivable pay 4's - but with strong par 3's and large and sloping green complexes. The 18th green measured 55m from front to back.
The course is similarly situated relative to the beach with Hawks Nest - with similar vegetation etc - and could best be described at Hawks Nest GC on steroids - with many Out of Bounds close to the fairway line.
The weather on Saturday for Round 1 was perfect - but deteriorated for Round 2 on Sunday - even including a 90min delay for lightning/storms.
Round 1 saw the leading players on 65 x 2 and 3 x 66. Central Coast DGA was clearly leading the Teams event.
In Sundays Round 2 the best score was 68.
The NDGA scores over the 2 days were -
Jake Riley 69, 69 Finish 5th with -4
Oscar Gilson 70, 68 Finish 6th with -4 Equal best score on Sunday.
Tom De Wit 71, 73 Finish 16th with +2
Luke Ferrier 70, 74 Finish 18th with +2
David Alexander 75, 71 Finish 24th with +4
Bryce Pickin 76, 72 Finish 34th with +6
Michael Wade 73, 75 Finish 36th with +6
With the District Teams event being scored using the best 4 of 6 scores - with consistent play on both days saw the NDGA Team record a 1 stroke win over the overnight leaders, Central Coast , with Golf Illawarra a further stroke back in 3rd.
A mighty effort from the NDGA Team - going 1 better than their 2nd place at Forbes last year - to record the NDGA's first ever win in this event.
