The Representative matches have resumed for the NDGA after having been cancelled in 2020 due to Covid.
The 2021 Inter-District matches commenced on Sunday May 30 with a match against the Lower North Coast DGA at Harrington Waters GC.
Harrington GC proved to be an excellent venue for this event with the course in good condition and great hospitality from officials and staff..
Unfortunately the weather was not quite as pleasant - with windy conditions and approx 1 hour of showers at the start of play.
Each team consisted of 6 Senior players and 4 Junior Players. The Juniors were chosen to closely approximate the handicaps of the LNC juniors. 2 of the juniors matches were played as scratch matchplay and 2 as handicap matchplay..
The junior matches were very tight the whole way - with 3 of the 4 matches decided on the last hole. Noah Lilley and Artie Stratford winning their matches for the NDGA. Thus the Juniors resulted in a 2 all draw - with the NDGA retaining the Challenge Cup for another year.
The Seniors matches were less close. Comfortable wins to David Alexander and Tom De Wit together with good wins to Jye Pickin, Michael Wade, Mick Coutman and Chris Turnbull secured a 6 to nil win for the NDGA Seniors. This meant that the Les Evitt Cup was retained by the NDGA again.
Overall, the NDGA won the match 8 to 2.
