Vale - Michael Dodd

Vale – Michael Dodd

It is with much sadness that we inform the members of the Newcastle District Golf Association and the golfing community that we lost one of our best on the morning of Wednesday April 2 – with the passing of Michael (Mick) Dodd. Mick was our NDGA Co-Patron, a Life Member, past President and long-term Vice-President/Captain and passed away early on the morning of April 2nd after a long battle with myositis.

Michael was well known and well respected in golf administration, particularly in his beloved Charlestown GC, where he was a Board member for 17 years, including 11 years as Captain. He was granted Life Membership of Charlestown Golf Club in 2013.

Michael joined the NDGA as the Charlestown delegate in 1990 and served on the NDGA Match Committee until the present day.  Michael served as the JPO in 2004 before he was elected as NDGA Vice-President/Captain in 2005 and served with distinction in that position until 2014, at which time he upgraded and served as NDGA President until 2020.  From 2020 onwards, Michael has served as the Patron of the Association.

Michael was made a Life Member of the NDGA in 2011, he was inducted as a NDGA Master in 1994 and was also a member of the Newcastle Senior Golfers Society.

Michael was a very handy A grade golfer in his time, with his putting prowess being legendary.    He was a keen on all aspects of golf and liked to tinker with clubs, shafts and lofts etc. He even owned a set of 1 length Clubs, following his idol Bryson DeChambeau.

Michael was a good bloke, an enthusiastic and competent golf administrator, a good golf partner and just someone who you liked to be around.   He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Our sincere condolences are extended to his wife, Denise and family.
