The 2021 A Grade Pennants Series continued with Round 5 conducted on Sunday March 7. This is the last of our Preliminary Rounds
Charlestown GC hosted Division 1 - with Muree GC hosting Division 2
In Division 1 we had 3 Clubs vying for the 2 available Finalists spots - and the closeness of the competition did not disappoint. In the vital first game out - Waratah won a close contest with hosts Charlestown - with a single putt on the 18th green clinching the 4.5 / 3.5 win. This result nullified any chance that Merewether had - and secured Waratah's place in the final. In the next game last year's Pennant winners, Newcastle recorded a 6 / 2 win to secure their spot in the Final. Despite winning the last game against Pacific Dunes by 6 / 2, Merewether fell short of the individual matches to earn a finals spot.
Congratulations to this year's Division 1 finalists, Newcastle and Waratah
In Division 2 it was even closer - with no less than 4 teams with a chance to secure a finals place. In the opening game Belmont had a good win over the Hawks Nest team to secure the first spot in the Final. In the next game Shortland Waters gained bragging rights over Tanilba Bay with a convincing win in what was the battle of the tail enders. The game between hosts Muree and Nelson Bay went right down to the wire - again with a putt on the 18th deciding the overall individual match total in favour of Nelson Bay, despite Muree winning 4 / 2. This enabled Nelson Bay to secure the last spot in the Final by the slimmest of margins
Congratulations to this year's Division 2 finalists, Belmont and Nelson Bay
